Hello Friends!
We hope all is well with each of you and would
love to hear from you.
We are continuing to learn so much here and are
growing in deeper intimacy with the Lord.
Since our last update, we have been studying a
few different topics.
We started the Old Testament and read through the
book of Genesis (with discussions in class).
Then, we had a week on homiletics, the study of
public speaking (teaching and preaching).
It was really challenging but so good.
We each took a personal testimony of one of
God’s character attributes that we’ve experienced in
our own lives (His wisdom, faithfulness, love, etc…)
and turned it into a 5 minute teaching which we
presented to the class at the end of the week.
We learned about having a propositional
statement, three main points, and a conclusion, which
challenges the listeners to application in their own
lives. Beth
spoke on the faithfulness of the Lord that as we delight
ourselves in Him, He gives us the desires of our heart
(Psalm 37:4).

Jason shared about God’s wisdom and guidance in
the provision of his Jeep (James 1:5).
Sorry the clearest photo is with Jason's eyes closed!
(He must have been looking into the spirit realm!!!)

It was amazing to listen to each of our
classmates teach. We
were both so encouraged and challenged to really seek
God more and know Him more intimately.
Last week, we were blessed to have an awesome
teacher, Mike Huckins (formerly on staff with School of
the Bible here), come down from his church in Ohio to
teach us the principles of hermeneutics.
Hermeneutics is the study of scripture in its
historical and grammatical context. It
was definitely a stretching week, but we learned a lot
of solid Bible study methods to ensure that we are
always seeking to understand the author’s single
intended meaning (rather than pulling our own ideas from
the text). We
mainly studied the book of Philippians, learning where
Paul was at the time of the letter, his previous
relationship with the church in Philippi, and the
semantic range of several of the Greek words in the
book. It
was really interesting to see how much light historical
context sheds on the scripture as well as understanding
more fully (through word study) the definition of some
of the Greek words Paul used.
This week, we have Oren Paris, who is the brother
of our base director, Leland, sharing with us principles
for seeking God’s face and discipling others.
We definitely don’t have it all figured out
yet, but are enjoying learning.
It’s good to know that we’ll spend our whole
lives understanding God and His Word more, but that just
makes it exciting.
It’s great to be challenged and stretched.
Our personal quiet times with the Lord have been the
true source of Life.
We are also learning all about understanding and
loving each other as a married couple.
God is good!
In November, we will be doing a weeklong pastoral
internship (probably in Ohio with Mike Huckins) where we
shadow a pastor and learn about the ministry of a local
church. This
next weekend coming up, we will be having a worship
event at the Twin Oaks Ranch called, Dwell, where we
just plan to spend time in His presence and hear what He
has to say to us.
We love you guys so much and are truly blessed to
have you in our lives!
Thank you for all of your prayers and support. We couldn’t be here without you!
